Professional soccer’s K League 1 Gwangju FC defeated Ulsan HD at home.

Gwangju won 2-1 against Ulsan in the eighth round of the Hana Bank K League 1 2024 at the Gwangju Football Stadium at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.

Gwangju, which had been beaten by Daegu FC (2-3) on Nov. 11, turned the tables on Ulsan.

It was the third consecutive win against Ulsan, following wins in September (2-0) and October (1-0) last year.

With the win, Lee Jung-hyo’s Gwangju jumped from ninth to sixth place with 15 points (21), ahead of Jeju United, Incheon United (14+) and FC Seoul (15-17).

Ulsan’s six-match unbeaten streak in the league, which included wins over Suwon FC (3-0), Gangwon FC (4-0), Jeju United (3-1), Daegu (2-1), FC Seoul (1-0), 스포츠토토 and Gimcheon Commerce (2-2), came to an end in Gwangju.

The loss leaves Ulsan in second place with 24 points, unable to catch the leaders Pohang Steelers (25 points).

Gwangju was led by the duo of Uhm Ji Sung and Lee Eun-hee, while Moon Min-seo, Jung Ho-yeon, Choi Kyung-rok, Kim Han-gil, Popovic, and Doo Hyun-seok were among the starters.

Ulsan started Martin Adam and Uhm Won-sang, with Kelvin, Matheus, Kim Min-woo, Kim Young-kwon, Hwang Seok-ho, and Cho Hyun-woo in the starting lineup.

Right from the kickoff, there was a collision. In the first minute of the first half, Ulsan fullback Shim Sang-min was hit in the face with an elbow during a contest with Gwangju wing Kim Han-gil, causing him to bleed.

Gwangju efforts paid off.

In the 13th minute of the second half, Um Ji-sung collected an aerial ball and drove into the center. After passing through Jeong Ho-yeon, Park Tae-joon shot from the center to give Gwangju the lead.

With the lead, Gwangju brought on Jeong Ji-yong, Gabriel, and Lee Kang-hyun, while Ulsan, desperate for a comeback, brought on Lee Min-gyu and Lee Cheong-yong.
