Choi Kyeong-ju took the sole lead on the second day of the Senior British Open (total prize money of $2.85 million), a major tournament of the Senior Golf Tour for those aged 50 and older.
Kyung-Ju Choi reduced her score by 3 strokes with 1 eagle, 4 birdies, and 3 bogeys in the second round of the tournament held at Carnoustie Golf Links (par 72) in Scotland on the 27th (Korean time).
Choi Kyung-ju, who shot 69 in the second round following the first, finished with a combined score of 6-under 138, two strokes ahead of second-place Stephen Ames (Canada, 4-under 140).
Choi Kyung-ju, who reduced two strokes through the 11th hole, jumped to the sole lead with an eagle on the 12th hole (par 5). Although she lost one stroke with two bogeys and one birdie in the remaining holes, she maintained her position at the top of the leaderboard.
Kyung-Ju Choi said, “I had a good iron shot today and was able to put the ball within 3m of the hole,” and added, “It was difficult to read the putting line, so I made a few mistakes, but I was able to get a good score like yesterday.”
Yang Yong-eun, who competed with Choi Kyung-ju, shot a combined score of 6 over par, 150, and fell to a tie for 49th place.
Yang Yong-eun continued his par streak in the second round, but failed to recover after recording a triple bogey on the 9th hole (par 4) and trading one birdie and one bogey.
