The San Diego Padres’ Kim Ha-seong resumed his hitting streak after a day off. However, he was disappointed to see several pitches that were caught.
Kim started at shortstop in the No. 8 spot against the Cleveland Cavaliers at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, and went 1-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in the Padres’ 7-0 win.
Kim faced Cleveland right-hander Gavin Williams in the first inning. Kim reached base in the top of the second inning with runners on first and third. The pitcher’s throw to third base caught Xander Bogaerts in a rundown and he was out. Kim advanced to second on a grounder by Luis Campusano, but was stranded at first.
The second at-bat of the fourth inning was also a scoring opportunity. Kim stepped to the plate with runners on first and second, but the outcome was different from his previous at-bat. He worked a favorable three-pitch, one-strike count against Gavin Williams and took a five-pitch 95.8 mph four-seam fastball for a single up the middle. He was unable to bring in Jackson Merrill from second base, but kept the bases loaded.
Luis Campusano’s RBI single to left gave San Diego the lead for good.
In his third at-bat with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, he hit a first-pitch fastball off Pedro Avila, but it was retired on a line drive to center field. It was a hard hit 99.5 mph (160.1 km/h) fastball, but it sailed straight to center field.
In the eighth inning, Kim faced his fourth at-bat after David Peralta led off with a solo shot to make it 4-0. Working on a two-strike count, 파워볼실시간 Kim hit a 76.3 mph curveball on the third pitch. He hit a grounder to shortstop, but shortstop Dinell Schnyman’s throw to first was errant, allowing him to reach first base. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and came home on Luis Camposano’s single to left.
In the top of the ninth, with the bases loaded and one out, he hit a four-pitch, two-strike, 92.4-mph fastball to shortstop. Shortstop Brian Rocchio’s throw to center field was off the mark. The 99.8-mph (160.6-kilometer) fastball didn’t make it out of the infield.
San Diego earned its ninth win in as many days as starter Dylan Sease pitched a complete game, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk while striking out 10 in seven innings. It was his second straight start with at least one run and 10 strikeouts, following a six-inning, one-run, three-hit, 11-strikeout shutout against the Atlanta Braves on April 14.
Bogaerts, Meryl Peralta and Campusano each had two hits. Campusano led the offense with two RBIs. San Diego improved to 51-50 as it escaped a two-game sweep.
